- Bacteriostatic water (BAC water) is sterile water for injection containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is commonly used to reconstitute lyophilised peptides in laboratory research, providing a stable diluent that supports multiple withdrawals from a single vial.
- The benzyl alcohol preservative inhibits bacterial growth, allowing the same vial to be used over several days or weeks without contamination. Plain sterile water lacks preservatives and is intended for single-use only after opening.
- Store sealed at room temperature (15-25 °C). Once opened, follow the manufacturer's recommended in-use period (typically 28 days). Discard any solution showing precipitation, discoloration, or visible particulates.
