What is BPC-157?

BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from a sequence found within human gastric juice protective protein. In preclinical studies it has been characterised across a wide range of tissue-repair and inflammation models, including tendon, ligament, muscle, gastrointestinal mucosa, and nervous-system contexts. All available evidence is from animal models, isolated organs, or cell-culture systems — no large-scale human trials have evaluated efficacy or long-term safety.

Mechanism of action (preclinical evidence)

BPC-157 has been reported to modulate the nitric oxide (NO) system and to influence vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) signalling, focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and paxillin pathways implicated in cellular adhesion and migration, and growth hormone receptor expression. It does not require a defined high-affinity receptor for activity in published reports, and its effects appear to involve coordinated up-regulation of repair-associated gene expression.

Research applications

  • Tendon and ligament regeneration models (rat Achilles tendon transection)
  • Gastric and intestinal mucosal protection (NSAID and ethanol injury)
  • Skin wound healing studies
  • Anastomosis and surgical-injury recovery models
  • Investigation of vascular flow modulation under inflammation

Storage and handling

Lyophilised BPC-157 should be stored at -20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Once reconstituted, follow your laboratory's standard handling protocols; most workflows assume short-term stability at 2-8 °C.

Regulatory status

BPC-157 is not approved by the FDA, EMA, or any major regulator for human use. It is on the WADA Prohibited List (S0). It must be supplied and used strictly for laboratory research only.
