Reading a Certificate of Analysis Field by Field

What each field on a peptide certificate of analysis means, and which combinations of fields actually carry evidence.
Product and batch
These two fields anchor the document. Without a batch identifier that also appears on the vial, the rest of the certificate cannot be connected to physical material.
Test date
Indicates how recent the analysis is relative to the lot. A test date that predates the production run is a contradiction worth querying.
Method
Names the analytical technique. HPLC addresses relative purity; mass spectrometry addresses identity. The method determines what the result can support.
Result
A measured value for the tested lot. It describes that lot under those conditions and nothing beyond it.
Laboratory and verification link
Identifies who performed the analysis and, ideally, provides a page controlled by that laboratory where the result can be checked independently.
