5-Amino-1MQ: NNMT Inhibitor Research Guide (2026)

Last updated

Introduction (research-only scope)

5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide. It is a small quinolinium molecule that inhibits nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme at the junction of NAD metabolism and methylation. It appears alongside peptides because of the audience interested in metabolic research compounds, which is a reason to describe it precisely rather than loosely.

Research use only. The material described here is a laboratory reagent for in-vitro research by qualified professionals. It is not a medicine, supplement, cosmetic ingredient or veterinary product, is not for human or animal use, and nothing on this page is medical advice or a claim of effect in any person.

What is 5 Amino 1MQ?

5-Amino-1MQ (molecular mass 159.19, CAS 42816-54-2) is a methylquinolinium derivative, roughly a twentieth the size of a typical peptide in this catalog. Peptra Labs supplies it as a reagent, 50 mg per vial. Note on batch documentation: the published report for batch QYA055 is a content or quantity determination (48.93 mg measured), not an HPLC purity assay; we state it as such rather than presenting a quantity figure as a purity figure.

How the reported mechanism works

NNMT inhibition

NNMT transfers a methyl group from S-adenosylmethionine to nicotinamide, consuming both a methyl donor and a NAD precursor. Inhibiting it is studied as a way to shift that balance in adipose tissue, which links this molecule conceptually to NAD+ biology.

Why a small molecule and not a peptide

Because the target is an intracellular enzyme, the compound has to be membrane-permeable, which a peptide of comparable function generally is not. That constraint is the reason the field went to small molecules here.

What the published evidence covers

The interest traces to a 2018 paper in Biochemical Pharmacology reporting that selective, membrane-permeable NNMT inhibitors reversed diet-induced obesity in mice. That is a mouse study, and it remains the anchor of the literature; a 2026 review situates NNMT more broadly as a stress-responsive metabolic-epigenetic regulator. There are no human trials of this compound and no approved product.

How to verify a 5 Amino 1MQ research peptide is real and pure

Two tests answer two different questions: mass spectrometry confirms identity (expected molecular mass 159.19), HPLC quantifies purity. Our specification is at least 98%. The published report for batch QYA055 reported 48.93 mg measured content (quantity test, not a purity assay) and can be checked on the testing laboratory’s own platform: third-party verification. Match the batch number printed on your vial against the lab reports archive rather than relying on a certificate image; what a valid certificate must contain is explained in how to read a certificate of analysis.

Storage and reconstitution

Store the lyophilised material sealed, dry and protected from light at 2 to 8 °C for routine laboratory use, colder for long-term archiving. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, keep refrigerated and use within the window your protocol defines; repeated freeze-thaw cycles degrade peptides. General handling for all our reagents is in the peptide storage protocol.

Regulatory status

5-Amino-1MQ is not an authorised medicine anywhere and is supplied strictly as a laboratory research chemical. It is not named individually on the WADA Prohibited List, but section S0 covers substances without approval for human therapeutic use, and metabolic modulators are addressed separately in section S4. Research-grade material supplied here is not a medicine and is for in-vitro laboratory use only. The wider framework, including anti-doping status, is described in the peptide risk profile.
