BPC-157: Pentadecapeptide Research Guide (2026)
Last updated
Introduction (research-only scope)
BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-amino-acid sequence derived from a protein found in human gastric juice. It is one of the two most discussed tissue-repair research peptides, alongside TB-500, and one of the few with a body of independent animal work. This guide covers what it is, what the published literature reports, and how to verify research-grade material.
Research use only. The material described here is a laboratory reagent for in-vitro research by qualified professionals. It is not a medicine, supplement, cosmetic ingredient or veterinary product, is not for human or animal use, and nothing on this page is medical advice or a claim of effect in any person.
What is BPC-157?
The sequence (GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, molecular mass 1418.67, CAS 137525-51-0) is a partial sequence of body protection compound, described by Predrag Sikiric’s group in Zagreb, who have published most of the mechanistic literature since the 1990s. It is notably stable in gastric juice, which is why it appears in oral-administration animal models. Peptra Labs supplies it as a lyophilised research reagent, 5 mg per vial.
How the reported mechanism works
Nitric oxide pathway
The most developed mechanistic account links BPC-157 to the nitric-oxide system: the originating group reports interaction with NO synthesis and with the effects of NO agonists and antagonists across a range of animal models.
Angiogenesis and growth-factor receptors
Reported effects on vessel formation, and a 2014 study describing increased growth hormone receptor expression in cultured tendon fibroblasts, are the mechanisms most cited in tissue-repair contexts.
Why it is paired with TB-500
The two act through different routes, which is why they appear together in study designs; our comparison BPC-157 vs TB-500 sets them side by side, and BPC-157 mechanisms goes deeper into the pathway work.
What the published evidence covers
The literature is large in rodent models and essentially absent in controlled human trials. A recurring caution applies: the great majority of studies come from the originating laboratory, and independent replication is the scarcest part of the record. A 2026 rat Achilles tendon study we covered in news reported that only TB-500 reached biomechanical significance in that model and that pairing it with BPC-157 added no measurable advantage, a useful counterweight to the volume of positive reports.
How to verify a BPC-157 research peptide is real and pure
Two tests answer two different questions: mass spectrometry confirms identity (expected molecular mass 1418.67), HPLC quantifies purity. Our specification is at least 98%. The published report for batch QYA055 reported 99.6% purity and can be checked on the testing laboratory’s own platform: third-party verification. Match the batch number printed on your vial against the lab reports archive rather than relying on a certificate image; what a valid certificate must contain is explained in how to read a certificate of analysis.
Storage and reconstitution
Store the lyophilised material sealed, dry and protected from light at 2 to 8 °C for routine laboratory use, colder for long-term archiving. After reconstitution with bacteriostatic water, keep refrigerated and use within the window your protocol defines; repeated freeze-thaw cycles degrade peptides. General handling for all our reagents is in the peptide storage protocol.
Regulatory status
BPC-157 is not an authorised medicine in the European Union, the United Kingdom or the United States, and no marketing authorisation exists anywhere for this sequence. It is not named individually on the WADA Prohibited List, but section S0 covers substances without approval for human therapeutic use, so athletes should treat the live list as binding. Research-grade material supplied here is not a medicine and is for in-vitro laboratory use only. The wider framework, including anti-doping status, is described in the peptide risk profile.
