Epithalon (Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly) is a short synthetic tetrapeptide first discovered in the late 1980s by Prof. Vladimir Khavinson. As a derivative of epithalamine, it has attracted research interest for telomerase activation and anti-aging properties.
Research Highlights
1. Anti-Aging and Telomerase — Reduced mortality by 52% in fruit flies/rats and 27% in mice. Induced telomerase activity in human somatic cells.
2. DNA and Gene Expression — Interacts with promoter regions of CD5, IL-2, MMP2, and Tram1 genes. Increases interferon gamma expression in aging lymphocytes.
3. Skin Cell Regeneration — Stimulated fibroblast proliferation by 29-45% in young and old rats. Reduces caspase-3 activity.
