PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a synthetic MC-4R agonist derived from Melanotan 2 that works through central nervous system melanocortin pathways rather than peripheral vasodilatory mechanisms. Research Highlights 1. Central Mechanism — Activates MC-4R in hypothalamic regions regulating sexual behavior and arousal.
2. Female Sexual Dysfunction — described in clinical literature for HSDD in premenopausal women based on phase 3 trials.
3. Male Sexual Function — Induced erections independent of nitric oxide pathways.
