Semax is a synthetic seven-amino-acid peptide derived from the ACTH(4-10) sequence, developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Russia. It rapidly elevates BDNF and NGF expression while avoiding hormonal effects of full-length ACTH. Research Highlights 1. Neural Network Effects — fMRI studies showed increased default mode network volume after intranasal administration.
2. Stroke Recovery — Genome-wide analysis showed Semax influenced immune and vascular gene expression during focal ischemia. Clinical studies showed increased plasma BDNF and improved motor recovery.
3. Neurotrophic Factor Regulation — Single intranasal dose activated BDNF and NGF expression in hippocampus and frontal cortex, reaching maximum levels within 8 hours.
4. Cognitive Enhancement — ACTH-related peptides prevented LTP impairment and restored spatial learning independently of seizure control.
